In the article "Leo Villareal Launches His New NFT Project ‘Cosmic Bloom’" by Daniel Cassady, we discuss a new exhibit by the artist Leo Villareal who's media emphasis is in Programming and LED art. In this exhibit he has collaborated with a platform called Outland to make a new series of NFT's titled "Cosmic Bloom". In this series he draws inspiration from natural and biological structures as well as those found in the galaxy. Villareal's work is really impressive as it uses live code to generate complex geometric patterns. Notably, each NFT created by Villareal is unique and is in a constant non-repeating motion. This work is a culmination of over 20 years of coding experience by Villareal which he mostly used for his previous light display projects. When he discovered NFT's and the methodology behind them he realized how it was close to what he was already doing. Currently Villareal is an artist in residency at the Pace Gallery and some notable previous exhibitions of his were a 1.8 mile installation titled "Bay Lights" in San Francisco 2013, and in 2019 in London "Illuminated River" was displayed on four Bridges along the Thames spanning 3.2 miles. Leo Villareal seems like a very notable and impressive artist and I seem to favor his work because he seems to work at a crossroads where science and art intersect. Even the creation behind his work involves intense programming and methodology that mimics or aligns itself with scientific creations. As an artist I draw a lot of influence from science and nature and it would be cool to learn how to more intricately bring science and its methods into my work.
